Latino/a Studies Class Schedule

For the upcoming Fall 2009 semester the Latin American & Latino Studies program will be offering the following courses students can take towards an Associate in Arts (AA) degree:

I. Required (3 credits):

  • Humanities 143: Introduction to Latin American & Latino Studies (offered only in the Fall semesters)

II. Humanities or related areas (any 2 courses with emphasis or 6 cr./hrs):

  • Humanities 205-F: World Literatures I [Latin American Literature Emphasis] (Instructor: A. Tápanes-Inojosa)
  • Literature 128-S: Latin American Literature (Instructor: J. Rivera-van Shagen)
  • Literature 129-J01Y: U.S. Latino/a Literature [concurrent enrollment with English 101 G01Y] (Instructor: M. Estrada)
  • Spanish 214-E: Intro to Modern Literature Spanish (Instructor: J. Vázquez-Nieves)

III. Latin American History/Culture and Civilization (1 course or 3 cr./hrs):

  • Anthropology 202 E: Cultural Anthropology (Instructor: M. Fregoso)
  • History 211 S: Problems in History (Instructor: C. Burnett)
  • History 215 P & 215 R*: History of Latin America (Instructor: C. Burnett) [* R section requires concurrent enrollment in English 102-J2]

IV. Foreign Languages Course (1 course or 4 cr./hrs):

  • French 101-104: (All French language courses)
  • Spanish 101-104, 106, 113-114: (All Spanish language courses)

V. Electives (1 to 3 courses or 3-9 cr./hrs):

  • English 101- G01Y: Composition I (Instructor: M. Estrada)
  • English 102-J2: Composition II (Instructor: J. Nitsch)
  • Social Sciences 101-B: General Course I (Instructor: M. Fregoso)

Any extra course in categories II-IV will count as electives.
