Fall 2009 Student Entrepreneur Business Showcase

On Tuesday, October 13, 2009, Harold Washington College (HWC) students competed against other Chicago area community college students in a business entrepreneurship showcase event at the Rosemont Horizon in Rosemont Illinois. The competition allowed students to showcase their business for attendees to decide which of the plans were worthy of possible investment. HWC students placed very well in the competition, with students winning second, third and fourth place in the event.

HWC Spring 2009 Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration

During the Spring 2009 semester HWC was proud to celebrate "Hispanic Heritage Month" at HWC. This event celebrated the rich cultural history that the Hispanic community brings to the Chicagoland area. Guest speaker for this event was Zoraida Sambolin of NBC TV - Channel 5 Chicago, and also included an appearance by former Chancellor of the City Colleges of Chicago Wayne Watson. Also included are photos of HWC President John R. Wozniak and Former Vice-President of Academic Affairs Cecilia López.

HWC "Trading Floor" Opens During Spring 2009 Semester

As part of HWC’s efforts to be the leading community college when it comes to technology training, the campus was proud to announce the opening of the HWC Trading Floor during the Spring 2009 semester. The HWC Trading Floor is located in room 203-B. Students participate in "real-world financial stock market, commodity and futures trading scenarios" to enhance their financial literacy training at HWC. Coordinating this effort is HWC Business Department Chairperson Anita Kelley.


Transfer Fair Image

HWC Spring 2009 Transfer College Fair

Each semester HWC hosts a Transfer College Fair for students who are in the planning stages of preparing to transfer to a four-year college or university. During the Spring 2009 semester HWC the Transfer College Fair was extended to include private Illinois colleges and universities attempting to recruit HWC students. Coordinating the efforts for this event were HWC Transfer Center co-coordinators Barbara Taylor and Ellen Goldberg. This event was held in community room 1115 on the HWC campus.
